Automated Split Body Collection Trucks


In nearly all of our collection programs in urban areas, we have started using a new state-of-the-art automated split body truck. These trucks can collect two materials during the same stop and keep the materials separated inside the truck. The driver operates the mechanical arm to lift a rolling cart. The driver flips a switch to control a flap inside the truck which directs the material to the appropriate compartment. By collecting two materials in a single stop, a number of benefits are realized:

  • A reduction in the number of collection trucks on streets
  • A reduction in the “wear and tear” of streets
  • Less noise in neighborhoods
  • Fewer air emissions
  • A reduction in fuel consumption
